Hatchet 3 is the 2013 horror film of the Hatchet series. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as well as his brutal murderous rampage. The film's greatest strength is the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.

The cast is solid and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an formidable villain. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and tongue-in-cheek for it to feel like a true '80s slasher movie at times. There are also some truly funny moments that offer an entertaining contrast to the heartbreaking (blog) violence.

Unfortunately, due to the budget being small (1 million dollars), many of the locations are duplicates from earlier films. Hatchet 2's boat house was used only once, and the remainder of the footage seems like it's been reused from previous films. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which can lead to the film feeling almost too familiar.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior entries in this series--it offered lots of bloody thrills as well as entertaining performances from the actors.
